Karen Lilli Pax thinks of singing as painting with sound.

A graduate of Temple University's College of Music, she attended the Georgia State University Summer Opera Workshop, has twice been a participant in the Bel Canto Institute in New Palz, NY and was selected for the Opera Studio at the American Institute of Musical Studies in Graz, Austria.  She was guest artist at the University of Melbourne, Australia, where she performed a concert of American Songs and taught a master class for voice students.  Karen has also performed in concert in Maine, New York, and in Europe.

As a church musician, she has been soloist, choir director, and music director in churches in Maine and New York.  She has designed and lead retreats and worships, as well as producing numerous benefit concerts with both amateur and professional musicians. She studied with Metropolitan Opera Coach (ret.) Millard Altman from 1996 until his death in May of 2023.

Karen spent nearly five years directing a choir of about 40 mixed voices at The Highlands Retirement Community in Topsham, ME.  Working with voices aged 70 - 93 provides another window into the power of music, as evidenced by noticeable improvements in health, concentration, cognitive skills, and mood - as well as the sheer delight in making beautiful music.

She spent three years in the Baltimore area, teaching at Red Bridge Studios in Savage, and working with students at Marriotts Ridge High School in Marrriottsville.  Karen is also a Methodist pastor, currently serving churches on Cape Cod. She enjoys reading about quantum physics, reading the poetry of T.S. Eliot, Mary Oliver and Rainer Maria Rilke, travel, and writing.
